District Denominational Activities

THOMAS JEFFERSON DISTRICT - www.uua.org/tjd
Twice a year the leaders of the TJ District (North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and part of Georgia) provide training. All interested persons are urged to participate in these leadership training sessions.

SHELTER NECK - www.shelterneckuucamp.org
Shelter Neck is a UU retreat center near Burgaw (about 35 miles north of Wilmington). Occasionally a workshop and special worship service are conducted, with a potluck following the service. There are youth and adult programs throughout the year.

THE MOUNTAIN - www.mountaincenters.org
The UU retreat center in western North Carolina offers year-round programs including youth camps and stimulating adult programs. Or, you can go independently and rent a cabin on top of the mountain for a few days. The programs schedule is posted on the denominational bulletin board.

SUUSI - www.suusi.org
The Southeastern Unitarian Universalist Summer Institute is a week-long festival of seminars, workshops, services, outdoor experience, and social activities. Currently held at Virginia Tech University campus in the Virginia mountains every July, it is the largest gathering of UU's outside the General Assembly. Singles, couples, and families all participate, with housing and dining in the university facilities.

WOMENSPIRIT - www.uuwomenspirit.org
UU Womenspirit supports, creates, and conducts activities that encourage and enable women to explore their religious and spiritual origins, experiences, and beliefs. Pursuing, nurturing, and affirming creativity and diversity and the major emphases. This organization conducts a variety of workshops and the bi-annual Institute and Gathering at the Mountain. Held in May and September.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY - www.uua.org/ga
The annual meeting of the denominational leaders for the various congregations across the continent and around the world. In addition to policy-making sessions, there are many interesting speakers, workshops, and special services. General Assembly is held in a different city every year during the summer.

UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST SERVICE COMMITTEE (UUSC) www.uusc.org 
The UUSC is a membership organization of people working for justice in the United States and around the world. Its mission affirms the worth, dignity, and human rights of every person, and the interdependence of all life. The UUSC projects promote health care, education, leadership development, family planning, human rights, agriculture, women's empowerment, community self-help efforts, child welfare, and other initiatives that help freedom and justice to flourish.
