TalkAbout Film presentations need a discussion facilitator. The committee is asking for volunteers to fill this role. The Committee Chair will continue to write reviews and create the posters and suggested discussion questions as needed. The facilitator merely introduces the film, starts the discussion and keeps it appropriate. Of course, you may generate your own discussion topics. As always, we welcome other movie-loving volunteers to join the committee and help select and present films. Films are enjoyed once a month on a Friday evening.
The UUFW bookstore has been operating since February 2004. We are open on Sundays after each service in Dobkin Fellowship Hall. A great place to browse during coffee hour for books from Beacon Press and Skinner Books! We also have jewelry and gift items from UniUniques and other sources. In addition, we carry Fair Trade coffee and tea, with the proceeds going to UUSC. We have about five booksellers who take turns operating the store, but could use your help and your ideas. Please stop by the store and speak to a bookseller about how get involved. (last modified 10-09-2005)
Greeters provide a visitor's initial impression of what sort of fellowship we are. A smiling face and welcoming words are the important first step in making visitors feel comfortable. A welcoming “Good Morning” can help put a new visitor at ease. When we don't recognize a person we try to find out if they have visited before, if they are local and we like to learn how our guests heard about us.
Locals are invited to sign the visitors book - if they provide their mailing address or email we can send them The Beacon for three months. Greeters also assist with name tags and we often count on the information desk to provide brochures, pamphlets or answer any questions. Visiting young people are given a choice of attending the adult service or the youth church. Youngsters are introduced to Sue Graffius.
If the sanctuary is very crowded, greeters offer to escort visitors to seats. If someone is hearing impaired, amplification equipment may be secured by a greeter. Greeters make sure that wheelchairs are in a roomy and safe spot near the front. Visitors are always invited to join the Coffee Hour in Dobkin Hall after the Service.
